About the resort

Velingrad is situated in the most picturesque part of the West Rhodopi Mountains, the Chepino Valley. With its unique combination of climate, mineral waters and beautiful nature, the town is a much preferred tourist destination for recreation, relaxation and healing. It is 750 - 780 m above sea level.

The climate in moderate and very pleasant. Summers are cool, Winters are mild and snowy. Autumns are warmer than Spings. The average annual temperature is 10 - 15 degrees centigrade.

They say that Velingrad has got the most sunny days a year, about 300. Thanks to this extremely favorable climate it is very easy for every visitor to adapt to the weather confitions in the resort.

The pine-tree woods, the sunshine, the crystal clear fresh mountain air create the conditiona for a very healthy and enjoyable stay.

Velingrad and the region are mostly rich in water resources. That is why Velingrad is called “The blue pearl of the Rhodopi Mountains”.

The main water resources are the rivers, reservoirs, karst and mineral springs. The biggest karst spring on the Balkan Peninsula, The Kleptuza is a real natural wonder whcih sprouts out 570 l ice cold water. It pours out into two lakes, the most popular tourist attraction in Velingrad.

Velingrad’s greatest popularity though comes from the numerous different hot mineral springs, 78 of them with a total capacity of 14 million litres a day. They are huge natural wealth and they are also unique in composition which makes them the most healing springs in the country.

These mineral springs in Velingrad combine the quantity and the healing abilities of all the waters of Hisar, Narechen and Banja Karlovsko. They are similar to the mineral waters in Kostenetz, Dobrinishte and Kvustendil. Our mineral waters are rich in Nitrogen, Sodiu, and Fluorine and have variable anion composition and mineralisation as well as a great variety of rare elements.

The beautiful nature, the interesting local crafts and customs, the historical monuments and the hospitality of the people makes Velingrad an even more desirable tourist destination.
